We have an exterior camera Axis P3367 (front of building & streetscape with trees) that includes staircase to 2 doors.

Wind & trees causes moving shadows and patches of flash moments of darkness & brightness. There is an exterior flood light on 24/7 that should act to cover dark moments when shadows from moving trees occur.

We have motion detection covering most of the camera view and all the critical areas subject to even slight movements in activity (a lot of which covers these unwanted changes in lightness & shadows).

The camera is setup in Milestone to have 3 different areas of coverage (maximum is 8). We capture cars on the street & moving shadows from tree branches however when people move briskly up or down a staircase, motion detection often doesn’t capture & record them as events and these are the activities we want captured.

What motion detection settings would be best in this environment overcome this problem please?

You should try first to run with the build-in sensitivity adjustment (Manual sensitivity not selected), it should to a degree be capable of slowly adjusting, so that day and night situations should be covered.
There are situations where it can be very hard to find a setting that works, it seems a very difficult scenario you outline.
In general it is impossible to give you values to use, there is no way around doing manual adjustment with camera running and seeing how the adjustments cause detection or not. You might need to do the adjustment at night or whenever the scenario is most difficult, and thereafter verify the settings also work at day.
Yours Sincerely, Bo Andersen
