On a VM that hosts Milestone Express V8.6b, Build 166, the management console (or any smart client cannot connect to the cameras. On the milestone server, when opening the console, we get a message server:

Alarm Definitions ()
Failed to get alarm definitions. Make sure that the Event Server is running.

I've checked the Milestone Event and all other Milestone services were running on the Milestone server but have restarted all the services and also the PC.

The only software that might have changed onto the Milestone management PC (or the host PC) is the installation of MS-Windows updates. The VM workstation is not used for anything apart from Milestone

I selected search for update from the management console but advised there were no updates found, but when I checked on the Milestone web site I noticed some incremental upgrades that I haven't yet installed.

Connecting to cameras failing might have something to do with a change in firewall setup or similar, if the Windows update is the cause this sound like the most likely explanation.

Hello, milestone will not let me start a new thread so I will reply even though its not directly related.. sorry about that

We have an existing XProtect Professional server with ~60 cameras. I setup a new Milestone server 2014 and attached 1 of those cameras to it.

We have a firewall between the cameras and the Milestone server and we have the following ports open:

TCP: 1024, 1234, 1237, 22331, 7563, 8081, 8082, ftp, ftp-data, http, rtsp (554)

On the old server I could connect to this camera fine. On the new server I was getting a connection error trying to bring up video. I asked our network guys to open up the firewall completely and then it started to work.

The camera seems to be sending traffic on random UDP ports. I couldn't find any documentation about this in the manual. Does anyone know the firewall requirements between camera and server??

If I trace the UDP listening port to a PID it goes to "ProxySrv.exe" ?
