I am attempting to use a script to manually restart the services of XP Epress.

I am changing configuration files by copying over configuration.xml from a series of other files during different times of day and year.

Once I scripted the manual stop and start of the services, i started to realize not all of them were re-starting.

The recording server tries over and over, and other weirdness.

What is the actual proper service shutdown and restart order?
I have tried to "divine" it from the logs and other places, but i haven't decoded that yet.

Can someone here simply tell me the stop and restart order?

Hi Lenny,
If you set a batch file to stop and start all services available in the MGMT Application

Recording Server
Image Server Service
Image Import Service
Log check Service
Event Server service
Notification server service

If stopping the Additional service available in Services.msc > Milestone Service Control - this will initiate a restart of RS/Log Check/Image Server/Image import server

As for the precise order I do not know if this will matter. Please find a batch file attached that does allow stopping and then restarting of all services except the 'Service control service'

Thanks, I will try this.

Just FYI, before when I did this, my server got so badly damaged that the recording server would restart over and over after failing repeatedly.

This would go on forever.

Also the service control service wouldn't stay running either.

Finally I re-installed the server on top of itself and this brought it back online.

I think I will back up before i try this again.

I would love to know what happened though.

It seems that the ZIP file is missing from the Forum now.

I came here to re-download it.

Can you repost or at least publish the batch script in a post by itself if you get a moment?
I want to ensure that I have mine correct.

Here are the scripts I used to shut it all down fast and safely when the UPS senses the battery is too low.

I use two scripts to bring down the platform fast in case the battery life estimates are wrong and the UPS shuts down unexpectedly.
If I relied on the O/S to shut it all down, I would not be ABSOLUTELY sure that I shut it down as fast as possible.

=======================================================
Script #1: Shutdown Xprotect
=======================================================

Code:

@echo off
echo :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
echo ::                                     ::
echo :: SHUTTING DOWN XPROTECT VIDEO ::
echo ::       SURVEILLANCE SERVER           ::
echo ::                                     ::
echo :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
ECHO " "
NET STOP "Milestone Notification Server"
NET STOP "MilestoneEventServerService"
NET STOP "Milestone Service Control" /y
ECHO " "
echo :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
echo ::                                     ::
echo ::       SURVEILLANCE SERVER           ::
echo ::        SHUTDOWN COMPLETE            ::
echo ::                                     ::
echo :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Apparently you can only post "CODE" once per post.
I will post the SQL shutdown script in the next post...

Here is a link if you are reading this post by itself:

This is a continuation of this post:

Previous post...

Here is the SQL shutdown script

============================================================
Script #2: shut down SQL 2012 Express
============================================================

[quote]
Code:
@echo off
echo :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
echo ::                                     ::
echo :: SHUTTING DOWN SQL SERVER ::
echo ::                                     ::
echo :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
ECHO " "
NET STOP "SQLBrowser"
NET STOP "SQLWriter"
NET STOP "MSSQL$VIDEOOSDB"
ECHO " "
echo :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
echo ::                                     ::
echo ::            SQL SERVER               ::
echo ::        SHUTDOWN COMPLETE            ::
echo ::                                     ::
echo :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

======================================================

Then, I shut down the O/S.

When the power returns, the UPS brings everything back online.
