I am wondering how the "Officially Supported" camera list is compiled.
How can one get a camera officially supported. Can we write our on camera definitions?

There are a lot of new "China" cameras coming out all the time now. The images are just awesome on some of these. If end users are allowed to "develop" drivers and post them ... it would make the product even more Irresistible.

Thanks Walter, excellent question.

The Milestone "Supported hardware" list http://www.milestonesys....ate-and-xprotect-expert/ is a result of developing an testing drivers, firmwares and devices by Milestone and our partners. Together with these we're also continuously push for standards like ONVif and PSIA, which have been adapted by quite many vendors.

For the generic/unknown/untested devices, we have the Universal driver, which can adapt to most devices. More on this in KB article #197 (https://www.milestonesys.com/support/knowledge-base-articles/?fn=197)

Currently Milestone does not allow unsolicited drivers, and the MIP SDK does not offer this option, mostly for licensing and security reasons.
