I'm unsure of where the installer is pulling the name \Hewlett-Packard\\. The machine is a HP with a factory install of Windows 7 Pro x64, but the machine name has been changed to something more descriptive.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Paul Colledge

Thanks for the prompt reply Justin.

That link seems to take me to a non-existent knowledge base article, and searching for article number 530 also gives me 'No solution(s) where found with the current criteria.'

I did search the knowledge base for references to that error before posting, but I suppose it's entirely possible my searchfu let me down in this instance.

Ah your mymilestone account wasn't set correctly, I think I've sorted it so that you should now be able to login to mymilestone and view the article.

I have the same problem as described above and can not see the article. It would be useful to post the solution here.

In retrospect probably best posting the article here then.:)

Description:

When you attempt to install some versions of XProtect® software, the installation will fail with the error message Could not access network location \Hewlett-Packard\\.

This message typically stems from traces left behind by HP's operating system imaging software. The \Hewlett-Packard\\ location could refer to a mapped network drive, share, or disk partition used to install the Windows OS and any factory software.

Solution:

Launch the Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ (for 64-bit systems)

Find and delete a value named InstallLocation containing the string "\Hewlett-Packard\\", then run the installer again.
