Previous versions of Expert did not have this issue. When reviewing alarms, we used to be able to click each alarm click and it would start playing automatically. When Analytics Events are sent without bounding boxes, the alarm autoplays.
A quick test shows me that Smart Client version 2021R2 will start auto-play both when there is alarm overlay and when there is not. Every newer version of Smart Client will start auto-playing the footage only if there is no alarm overlay.
I wonder if there is a conscious design change so I will ask around here at Milestone.
The change in behavior was introduced in Smart Client 2022R1 as the part of a development project: “Improve playback options in Alarm Manager”.
The reason for the changed behavior is (quoting Milestone Development):
If there’s a bounding box in the footage, we want people to be able to see that by giving them enough time. You can’t achieve the same if you automatically play it.
Unfortunately, this behavior wasn’t made configurable, and it can’t be turned off.
We have had several clients complain about this change. One in particular monitors 10,000+ cameras and they haven’t upgraded versions in awhile because they need auto play to work with alarm overlay. They said it’s too onerous for their operators to also have to play each clip given the volume of alarms they receive.
Is it possible to get configurable auto-play in the next build? They want to be able to take advantage of new features, but are stuck until we find a solution.
