Someone there in company should start thinking on dedicating a bit more time to documenting the MIP SDK if they expect partners to use it. I’m wasting endless hours trying to guess how to do simple things to implement features on our plugin and when I post a question on the forum it can take more than a week to get a response, if there is any. There are certainly very good sample projects, but still, even in that case, one needs to guess what every single of code is supposed to do and why it is done there. At least a list of methods available and events with detailed description of what they do and when should be used would at least be more than welcomed.
In the MIP Documentation the MIP Reference Manual should list all available methods and provide short explanations.
When in the MIP SDK Documentation you have picked Plug-in Integration you will see the link to MIP Reference Manual in the left hand panel under Reference Documentation.
Unfortunately only few posts in the Community/Forum, Milestone Technical Support hope the usage will pick up and more will contribute, such that we will see quicker answers where today it might take some time.
An alternative is that you as a Milestone Solution Partner can create Support cases if you don’t find help in the Support Community.
Thanks a lot Bo. I don’t know how I didn’t find it myself. That’s exactly what I needed. I will sure help a lot having it.
It surprises me for another reason:
Say you are working with ContextMenuItem. If you type that in the search box in the right hand text box in the top of the MIP Documentation html based system and click the seacrh button (looking glass icon) you will get a number of hits in the left hand side. If you then click on a link like -MIP Environment: VideoOS.Platform.Admin.ContextMenuItem Class Reference it will lead you to that side.
You can then also navigate from there using tabs in the top -Main page, -Namespaces, etc.
Also you will generaly find hyperlinks across, say in the VideoOS.Platform.Admin.ContextMenuItem Class Reference you will find handy hyperlinks to ItemManager and Item, and other useful pages.
I hope this will be very useful. If you get a better feel of how to navigate the MIP SDK Documentation I think you will find it to be a good reference. I certainly hope so.
Do not hestitate to make news threads when you have questions, as I say I only hope the use of the community will increase. Maybe you should even raise questions again with new information, experience or simply you latest thoughts and get a new chance of the best answers leading to a solution for you.
I will try that too. Thanks
