Detect hardware model before adding it to recording server

Is it possible to detect the hardware model before adding it to a recording server? When doing a scanhardware task the only thing you get is the hardware driver. For example axis 1 channel device. But I need to know which model exactly.

Also knowing the possible settings (hardwaredefinitions?) before adding it to the recorder would be very interesting.
