Distorted video in Smart Client via Remote Desktop

Just upgraded a system from Corporate 5.0c to 2016 R2 and upgraded clients accordingly. Everything worked fine before upgrade.

My customer uses remote desktop to administrate his servers and check functionality in Smart Client. Before the upgrade there were no problems with viewing live and recorded video in the Smart Client. But after the upgrade it looks like this:

As you can see the video is distorted or skewed to the right in the top and it turns this way after 1-3 seconds after the stream is being shown. I have an errorline on the top about enabeling True Color (32bit), but the adapter on the server is set to True Color (32-bit). I am not convinced this is the cause either.

To make matters even worse, a stream may suddenly be presented correctly in another view. But overall, all cameras in all views are distorted 98% of the time. When using Smart Client locally on server or connected to server everything works fine.

Can this be caused by an AgentVI-plugin that is no longer in use, but not removed?

To answer my own question:

Although the adapter on the server was set to 32-bit, and remote desktop was set to use 32-bit, both these settings was overridden by a registry-key that was set to 16-bit. I changed HKLM \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStation \RDP-Tcp\ColorDepth key to “5” and it worked like a charm.
