PTZ and Preset Sample and component issues with absolute position

When using the ptz and preset sample along with or the component we have come across an issue related to absolute position and getting data from a camera.

The camera model in question is the Panasonic WV-SC6130, using 2019 R2 with Driver pack 10.7a

If the Panasonic PTZ is not powered on when the Milestone Recording Server starts, the Panasonic PTZ will not have any absolute positioning data provided.

Ff the Panasonic PTZ is powered on when Milstone Recording Server starts, it works fine.

Is this the known behavior? It seems to only happen with this camera. Is there anyway to force a refresh or change this behavior?

For understanding your question correctly, let me clarify one thing.

The camera is not power on and you start Recording Server, and then do you power on the camera after Recording Server services starts?

Hi,

The camera is mobile, so it is initially added to the recording server, but then is moved or tuned off.

So almost always the recording server is started before the camera. So the customers experience this issue almost every time.

Hi is there any update on this?

What is the camera (make, model, firmware version)? What is the name of the driver used in XProtect?

What is the XProtect product and version?

Camera:

Panasonic WV-S6130

Firmware 4.25

Driver: PanasonicPTZ

Xprotect Express+

VMS 2019 R2 - 13.2.1

VMS Device Pack 10.7.1.15

Legacy Device Pack 1.2.1.105

We will try to test this in the MIlestone test lab., right now this is a slow process due to minimal staff at the site.

Meanwhile; there is one thing I am curious about. Do you have multiple cameras of this model? Do all cameras of this model show this behavior? Does only one of the cameras of this model show this behavior?

Bo, yes we tested this against 6 identical customer cameras.

According to our notes on this driver the supported firmware is 4.01 and you are using 4.25.

If it is possible could you please try with firmware version 4.01 and let us know if it makes a difference?

If the camera does not allow a firmware change to 4.01 please let us know.

Bo,

it does seem the 4.01 is working properly. Can you advise if you can test against their latest firmware? they have fixed some critical issues. Thanks!

A request has been made to the Devices Integrations team here at Milestone Systems for a firmware test. I cannot say how quickly this test might happen.

Hi, this issue has reemerged. We have confirmed using the 4.01 driver that if the camera is NOT online when milestone starts, it will NEVER get absolute position data and cannot work with presets. It is only this camera we have found so far, but our customers have a lot of them . We have tried 2020 R2 as well and the latest driver pack and the issue persists. Please advise how we move forward.

Thank you for your report, it sounds very much like a driver issue (-it does not sound like an SDK issue).

Please create a support case on this so that a support colleague with expertise on this can report it to Milestone Development and have an investigation started.
