Hi, we have an Access Control MIP plugin that was written a couple of years ago. We last tested this plugin with XProtect 2020R1. Do we need to re-test our plugin against newer versions of XProtect such as 2021R2 to make sure that it will work properly? Or, is the plugin architecture backwards compatible, so that older MIP plugins will automatically work with newer versions of XProtect? In particular, we have been advised that there have been some encryption changes recently to XProtect that might cause our plugin to no longer work.
Do you have any concerns about it? If you have anything that you suspect particularly, please let us know about its detail.
Thanks for the reply. The only information that I had received is that there have been “some encryption changes to XProtect” that might affect plugins. My best guess for what this is (after reading the release documentation for the past few SDK releases) is that in release 2021R1 there was a change to authentication in XProtect: "From the 2021 R1 release, an internal OpenID- and OAuth2-compliant identity server is now used for authentication in XProtect. This affects how integrations log on to the VMS."
However the documentation for the 2021R1 SDK then states that “no changes are needed” for plugin integrations. Based on this, it seems that we don’t need to be concerned.
It is correct, you don’t need to be concerned and it should work properly. But if you find something strange behavior when you run it, please get back to us.
OK - will do. Thanks for your help.
