What is required to get Metadata to record?

I’m experimenting with the MIP SDK samples (MultiChannelMetadataProvider, MetadataLiveViewer, and MetadataPlaybackViewer) and I can’t seem to get the metadata to record. I can view it using MetadataLiveViewer. The Management Client shows the little 1’s and 0’s when data is sent, but it doesn’t seem to be recorded. I’ve let it run for an hour and the local storage used by the device doesn’t change. The MetadataPlaybackViewer doesn’t appear to find any data when it connects to the server.

Is there anything special I need to do to get it to record? The Recording checkbox is checked on the device settings Record tab.

I’m using the Corporate version 2020 R1.

You need a rule.

I recommend that you make a new rule that records always on a group of metadata devices and make sure the devices you want recorded is in that group.

If you do not create a rule you might get recording if you setup the metadata device to be related to a camera, in this scenario you will get recording on the metadata device if the camera is recorded (which there is a default rule to record on motion).

Thank you Bo! A rule was exactly what I needed. It is now recording and I can see the data in the MetadataPlaybackViewer.
