Writing a script to export archived videos to MKV

I need to convert existing archived videos to MKV, but not manually using Smart Client since there are many hours of existing videos. I want to know if I could write a script or a component to automate this, as in I could specify the camera and time range in command line interface. Maybe there’s something already existing, but I can’t seem to find any information.

There is no tool that does what you ask. You can however develop such a tool. I recommend that you explore the Export Sample.
