2025 Update – Upgrade Path from XProtect 2020 R3 to 2025 R3

Hello,

I am currently running Milestone XProtect Corporate 2020 R3 in my production environment, and I would like to upgrade this system to XProtect 2025 R3.

I would appreciate your guidance on the recommended and supported upgrade path.

My current environment:

  • XProtect Corporate 2020 R3

  • Live production system

  • Separate servers for:

    • Management Server

    • Recording Server(s)

    • SQL Server (SQL Server 2019 Express)

  • Approximately 70 IP cameras

  • Recordings must be preserved during the upgrade

My questions:

  1. Is a direct upgrade from 2020 R3 to 2025 R3 supported, or is an intermediate upgrade (for example to 2023 R3) required?

  2. What is the recommended upgrade order for a distributed setup (Management Server, Recording Servers, SQL Server)?

  3. Are there any specific precautions or best practices I should follow to avoid recording or configuration loss during the upgrade?

  1. Go to https://www.milestonesys.com/

  2. Log in, then select XProtect. From there, you will have access to the Packs and the Support section.

  3. In the menu, choose the support option you need.
