This is a new one to me using the Milestone system. I’m coming up empty on a way to do this but the customer insists that how they want it. Does anyone have a way to do this with Milestone Enterprise?
Yes, using DNS names for cameras is actually supported for both XProtect Advanced and Professional portfolios. I just verified with my local Enterprise installation, adding a line to my Windows HOSTS file:
10.255.250.123 MyDNSname
That sounds like you are editing the file after the camera is already added in the Management client.
I am needing to be able to go into the Management client and add a hardware device using a DNS name instead of the IP address. That way if the IP changes it will still be able to connect because it will be using the DNS name instead of the IP. The cameras on this network are all DHCP.
We always use the network name of the camera in the address field to add cameras in MileStone Enterpise. This works fine.
