From these tests today am quite sure there’s something odd with the VPS connection.

When a user subscribe to a metadata or video topic from MC and a VPS hardware gets created there should be an entry in the “devicehandling.log” almost immediately.

VPS Driver comes built-in on RS:

Can you check the driver is in your installation ?

Could you:

1 - Restart the RS service ?

Using the Connectivity-Sample application

2 - Unsubscribe all the metadata topics from MC

3 - Subscribe to one metadata topic. Check the configuration properties, check the VPS url it must follow the format: VPSNODES,http://[AiBridgeHost]/processing-server/metadata/[guid]/[topic]/[format]/[guid]/[guid]

4 - Click on the button to ‘Start’ sending metadata.

5 - Check the ‘devicehandling.log’ located in the RS log folder.

Since the problem is pointing to VPS I would like to double-check the driver is there (as expected) and also that RS can or not make the VPS work …

3 - Stop the AI Bridge

4 - Leave the ‘EXTERNAL_ROOT_PATH‘ as it is from our delivered compose-files. I.e. with

EXTERNAL_ROOT_PATH=“/processing-server”

5 - Start the AI Bridge again

6 - Close and Start MC application

7 - Subscribe to the metadata topic

8 - Check the VPS url has ‘/processing-server’/’ on its path

9 - Check the ‘devicehandling.log’ file

An entry containing VPS keyword should appear in the logs file.

Hi there,

Today I had a talk with a colleague who works on the Recording Server.

He mentioned something important. Looking at your VPS hardware:

The icon shows a blue square status, that means that the device is stopped (it hasn’t started) and that explains why there’s no entry in the devicehandling.log

The hardware I get created on my machine looks like this:

The icon shows a a green triangle status. Meaning the device has started.

My colleague told me probably there must be an error message in the RS main log RecorderEngine.log (at C:\ProgramData\Milestone\XProtect Recording Server\Logs\).

To find the VPS metadata ID that’s being added when you subscribe to a metadata topic you can do the following:

1 - While keeping the control key pressed, click on the VPS metadata device:

The ID that MC shows is the ID of the VPS metadata device that was created and we should use it in the RS logs to find specific errors related to this.

I hope this can help us understand why the VPS device is not starting (green triangle status on MC).

That’s weird . Would you mind sharing your RS logs (the whole folder zipped) also which is the VPS ID.

When the device start there was suppose to be an error in the logs ….
