This is my last resort. I have done everything that I could possibly do to make this work. I have two cameras with connected microphones. Both are on the same network as the milestone essential server. The audio through the server (and workstation) smart client is horrible. It’s as if the people speaking are underwater and it skips constantly, making what is being said indiscernible.
Here is what I have done:
Created a new view with just one camera - same problem (so it’s not that there are too many video streams and the computer is too under resourced to handle them all)
Test the rtsp stream within VLC - audio is nice and clear from VLC stream. This rules out any problems with the microphones themselves.
Upgraded device packs and essential server and client software to the latest version - this did nothing.
Upgraded the server with a better video card, double the amount of memory and a separate hard drive for archiving and recording - this also did nothing.
Rebuilt the server with a clean install of windows and milestone - this helped some, but the audio is still skippy and not as clear as the VLC stream.
I am now trying to set up milestone 2.0 with an old device pack because nothing else seems to work and milestone won’t help me because I don’t have a premium care pack.
I have tried changing MJPEG to all of the other types and nothing changes.
My belief is that this problem is related to the milestone software. My users have told me that the problems started after an upgrade. A quick search on ACTi’s site shows me what version milestone device pack to use. I am testing now with older software and device packs.
This has been a problem for almost a year now …
