Can we export the MKV without the player and still be able to rewind and fast forward video?

When the customer exports video, they export the file to the GETAC Body Worn VMS that they are using as an evidence locker. No, this is not optimal, and is not what was sold. GETAC takes in any file format and converts it to GETAC format. Currently the .MKV format when pulled does not allow fast forward or reverse. Because it is not going to a file, but going to an evidence locker, the player is not wanted.

They can pull the .AVI file format, but then there is no watermark and the file size is large.

The current work around is to export to the .MKV format and convert this to .MP4, which is then converted by GETAC into whatever format it uses. The ATI VMS is supposed to automate this process. The ATI VMS has some size limitations that require video to be broken up into large chunks. The customer is okay with this, but would like to see if Milestone can produce a usable, watermarked .MP4 or some other way to integrate with GETAC.

Is this possible? I know this is not the normal use of Milestone and it does what it is supposed to do. Please advise any possible solutions.

MKV Export is a highly effective way to export the footage that was sent by the camera unaltered. Where the Milestone format offer is center of what Milestone does and offer much functionality and optimization developed by Milestone, the MKV format is a general format and a standard.

The expertise on how to best take advantage of the capabilities of this format might be greater at forums focusing on general video handling or specific handling of the MKV format. At Milestone Technical Support and Milestone Development we do not feel we have a great insight into this.

I hope that other Milestone partners with bigger insight might answer your question, but I would also suggest seeking information in other forums.
