(Quote from help system) “The remote connect services feature contains the Axis One-click Camera Connection technology developed by Axis Communications.”
Please lookup “Remote connect services (explained)” in the manual or help(F1).

Thank you and good to know there is a VPN solution embedded into the camera.
My specific requirement is to easily add IP cameras in private networks for live monitoring. It is unclear in the documentation of if the VPN is used for to “retrieve” video/audio (as stated in referenced documentation) or view live video streams. Are you able to clarify?
For the purpose of easily and cost effectively accessing cameras in private networks, Axis makes available a feature commonly referred to as Peer to Peer (P2P) where cameras will register with a external Axis Mediator Server. The Axis VMS will then access the Mediator Server to connect cameras. I am wondering if XProtect can likewise access the Axis Mediator Servers to connect registered Axis cameras? Note this method will not need a secure tunnel server as Axis cameras support HTTPS and SRTP.
Lastly, I am not completely familiar with the design/features of involved systems and this is a learning processes for me. I appreciate your understanding.

The way Axis One-Click uses the same technology stack I believe.
The way it works is the camera will connect to Axis servers and based on the MAC, will learn the address of the Secure Tunnel Server you have registered with Axis on the back end using the camera’s MAC and Owner Access Key (OAK). The camera then establishes an outbound VPN connection to the Secure Tunnel Server.
On the Milestone-side, the Recording Server will connect to the inside interface of the Secure Tunnel Server to reach the camera.
The Smart Client only talks to the Recording Server - it isn’t aware of the Secure Tunnel Server and the Smart Client never talks to cameras directly as live and recorded video will always be requested from the Recording Server.
Does that answer your question? In my experience, Axis One-Click works well, but it can be a challenge to get setup initially. Once it’s up and running it’s a great way to get camera feeds from remote networks without having to setup VPN or port forwarding and such.
