I need to control the PTZ camera Samsung SNP-L5233H with the joystick Videotec DCZ, inside Milestone Professional 8.6d (device pack 7.8). That joystick is compatible with Milestone and the calibration was correctly done. Using the Smart Client, I can correctly move the camera using the mouse, but when I do the same with the joystick, the movement of the camera does not reflects the real controls given by the joystick: for example, a little movement in pan axis corresponds to a big movement of the camera, a little movement in zoom corresponds to give the camera the command to set the zoom to the maximum value.
With other cameras, the joystick works better, so what can I do?
Thanks.
Andrea
Andrea,
First and foremost, virtual PTZ (mouse) and real PTZ (joystick) work in completely different ways, so comparing them does not really help here.
In order to find the culprit, you should do a bit of testing:
- Does the joystick work with other cameras of the same type?
- Does the joystick work with other camera models?
If the answer to the former question is “no” and the answer to the second question is “yes”, then there is a chance that the camera driver has a problem “translating” the joystick events into PTZ commands.
Another possible reason could be the Image Server service itself. We have a known issue where the Image Server service drops PTZ commands. Pls consult the KB article #2099 “PTZ joystick drifting”. The title is a bit misleading, but the article is the correct one. Replace the Image Server executable and see if it helps.
Rgds,
