We are working on a system that copies the missing video from an alternate recording system or source.
How do we achieve this without rebuilding or restarting the recording server?
For example, Milestone does this while restoring missing content from onboard camera storage. Can we know how it is being achieved?
I do not think this can be achieved.
You can record in an recording server in two ways; live and edge retrieval. Both live and edge data should come from the camera device itself. Anything not coming from the camera should be considered tampering. Part of the security you get by using a VMS is that you know the camera data comes from the device, when recorded it cannot be changed and can only be deleted by running out of the retention period.
But maybe the answer is that setting up cameras that support edge retrieval to use it, is the way to avoid or minimize the chance of missing video.
