Introduction
When it comes to the surveillance industry, there are many devices out in the market (like Cameras, Sensors, IOT and Input/output devices) which may or may not be ONVIF Conformant. Devices following the ONVIF standard can be connected with Milestone XProtect through the ONVIF driver (Developed by Milestone). If, however a device has unique features/functionalities that go beyond the ONVIF specification, there is now an option to support this. To integrate such devices with XProtect, Milestone launched the MIP Driver framework in 2019 (click here to learn more). It empowers the manufacturer to develop their own driver and integrate almost any device with Milestone XProtect.
The drivers developed using the MIP Driver framework are called 3rd Party Drivers. Milestone not only empower the manufacturers to develop their own driver, but also help them to promote it. The 3rd party drivers can be promoted/distributed through Milestone’s Marketplace.
This main objective of this article is, to explain how easy to distribute the 3rd Party drivers by following few simple steps.
How to distribute?
The first important step for the distribution is to sign up to the Technology partner program and become our Technology Partner. It’s free of cost with lots of benefits. Once you have joined our community, you will be assisted by our partner team on the further steps.
Here is the brief overview of the steps involved
Step 1: Demo your 3rd Party Driver
You will be expected to deliver a quick demonstration of the driver to understand more about the driver’s features and functionalities.
Step 2: Self-Test
After the successful demo, you will be assigned a few self-test cases to test the features of the driver with XProtect. The submitted test results will be verified by Milestone R&D team.
Step 3: Distribution
Once the drivers are successfully verified, you are to create your own content at Milestone Market Place. Once the content page is approved by Milestone Partner Team, the drivers will be available at Marketplace to download.
The devices supported by the 3rd party driver will also be added to the Milestone supported devices list.
