Discontinuation announcement

2018 releases will be the last MIP SDK releases to include the following components: ImageViewer, AudioPlayer, EngineManager ActiveXs and “UseActiveX” environment option.

Existing applications using these components should not be affected during 2018 as maintenance work on these components will continue until 2019 R1, but with no new functionality added.

With MIP SDK 2019 R1 these components will be officially discontinued and will no longer be included in the MIP SDK.

For web and C++ development, we strongly recommend developers to already now start using the Mobile Server interface instead. As to Windows based applications we recommend using the ImageViewerControl or ImageViewerWpfControl .NET controls.

Important information!

I realise this is an old post, but is there any sort of migration guide? Are you saying that ImageViewer, AudioPlayer, EngineManager etc will just stop working against future XProtect versions? Thanks

Hi Gary,

Maybe @Rie Kiuchi (Milestone Systems) can confirm but I’m pretty sure existing software built using the old ActiveX controls still work so long as client-side encryption has not been enabled on the Recording Server.

If you update the project references for an old ActiveX solution to use the new SDK, any references to the old components will be broken and you’ll probably want to work towards the WPF replacements.

Sorry for letting you wait. We can confirm what Josh mentioned.

We verified that VideoviewerQuolity sample built using the old ActiveX controls could run on no- encrypted 2020 R1 XPCO.

On the other hand, if you run it on encrypted 2020 R1 XPCO, then it will not work and the old ActiveX does not support.
