Event list not updating automatically in 2024 R2

We create analytic events by calling the SOAP interface AlarmServiceToken. After upgrading from 2023 R3 to 2024 R2 the event list in Smart Client does not automatically update for normal users. It works for administrators. Remebering a known bug in 2022 R3, https://developer.milestonesys.com/s/question/0D53X0000CR37wUSQR/analytic-events-only-shown-for-administrators, we discovered that it started working when users get the permission “Use access control” in the role “Access Control”. The old workaround by sending empty string as type is still in place at our end. Is the permission “Use access control” the best workaround for this behaviour?

I have verified this behaviour even with standard analytic events created in Management Client. When triggered the permission “Use access control” is required for automatic updates in the event list in Smart Client.

A simple repo:

Open Management Client and create a basic user with following permissions:

  • Management Server - Connect
  • Cameras - Read
  • Alarms - View

Open Smart Client and log in as that user. Create a view with Alarm List and set data source to Event. Go back to Management Client and create a new analytics event and trigger it on any camera by using the Test Event button. Go back to Smart Client. The event does not show in the list. Apply a custom filter to the list that will match the event. The list is reloaded and the event will show.

However, if you go back to Management Client, add permission Access Control - Use access control to the basic user, restart the Milestone XProtect Event Server service, restart Smart Clinet and then trigger the event again the list will automatically update in Smart Client.

Nobody knows?
