Export/Codec Issues

I’m trying to view some exported feeds from our client who’s running XProtect Corporate. I have an ~4GB .mkv file and am trying to view it using VLC on a Windows 10 Pro machine that also has a XProtect installed on it.

When I open the .mkv file in VLC, it just tries to play over and over, looking like it restarts, but never getting past the 00:00:00 mark.

I’m curious if the export is corrupted and I need to have the client troubleshoot, or if I’m simply missing a codec?

It looks like it may have something to do with the size of the exported file and VLC. I was able to open the file with Windows Media Player and play it successfully.

I tried it with a shorter export and VLC was, in fact, able to play it.

Just in case anyone else in the future comes across this.
