We had begun developing a way to 1) create a number of bookmarks and then 2) export multiple specific ones together based on a list of bookmark GUIDs. (so ONE export.scp file in the end, but multiple bookmarks). But this approach was not feasible.
We’ll also entertain not actually doing any exporting but being able to make a custom list of bookmarks which can be seen in some sort of custom view in the SC.
Basically a staff member is going to be performing an action which has a start and stop time while being observed by a certain camera. Then that staff member will have a list of 3 or 4 bookmarks(or start and stop times on a certain camera). They’ll save that list. Then a manager will, review the video off of that list and sign off on what they observed. The trouble is that if the manager has to find all these scattered bookmarks throughout the day, it would take up too much time.
Or maybe I can tell you in a different way. Imagine a factory floor with 7 machines and 7 cameras. Each time a machine is turned on, that is the start time for a bookmark. Turn it off and that is the end time for that bookmark. And sometimes two or more machines may be running at the same time. Eventually a pile of bookmarks would be generated. The manager needs to review just the video of the start and stops. Ideally all the cameras would be in a nice view in the SC.
In the current Smart Client I can manually add a bunch of bookmarks to an export and export them all in one export. It’s very nice but there does not seem to be a way to programmatically make this occur with the MIPSDK. But again, doesn’t necessarily need to be an export. We just need to have a very focused way to review a specific number of bookmarks.
As you can see StartExport has only one start time and end time. So you can only have one timeline for exporting.
We will ask Milestone Development to put it on a wish-list. If they agreed on, it will be on a wish list to change this. For the change to happen prioritization needs to be made by Milestone Product Management, so it is currently not possible to say when, or even if, this will be developed.
Thank you for the reply. Yes, we understand that we can only have one start and end time. In my question I posted a reply whereby we can programmatically load a series of bookmarks into the view in the SC. Is some kind of scenario like this possible? (so NOT an exporting thing but rather a way to present just the certain specific video we need to show)
And to give you an example of our prospective solution to this is that we intend to create a database of the bookmark metadata, and export all the video in .avi format. With the video files of the bookmarks, and their metadata, we will make our own ‘smart client’. This will be a significant expenditure of R&D resources for us to develop. We would prefer to find a way to utilize the MIP SDK and the Xprotect smart client instead! Any guidance would be appreceiated.
Thank you for the explanation, unfortunately, there is no such a functionality. We have put it on a wish-list and asked Milestone Management to consider to prioritize it. For the change to happen prioritization needs to be made by Milestone Product Management, so it is currently not possible to say when, or even if, this will be developed.
