I need to know if Milestone XProtect, installed on an NVR, is running and if it is recording at least 1 camera feed. What is the easiest way to acquire this information?

A client asks us to make a supervisor program, where it is shown if all NVRs are alive and if they are recording. One of the possibilities is to have the NVRs run Milestone XProtect, and I need to estimate how much work it would be if the choice is Milestone XProtect.

So we only need 2 binary infos:

- is Milestone XProtect running

- is Milestone XProtect recording on at least 1 camera feed (10 camera’s will be connected to each Milestone installation)

Could you tell me what the simplest way is to acquire this information from XProtect?

  1. It seems overkill to create a plugin with the SDK

  2. I don’t know if the “recording” information is available through ONVIF communication.
