Is port 80 necessary in a Federated architecture environment for Parent and child site to be able to sync when using encryption on both sites?

Both parent and child site are XP 2023R3. They are unable to sync unless port 80 is allowed on the firewall. Both sites are using encryption.

If it’s necessary to have port 80 open for now, is there any plan (for future releases of Xprotect) to avoid using port 80 in situations like this?
