Milestone Open Network Bridge: It keeps giving: "unauthorized"

I have configured ONB, but when I want to connect via VLC or ffply to test - I keep getting unauthorized.

I have attached all of the settings to show that it’s all configured.

I have tried all of the basic debugging steps: restarting the services, removing the user, re-adding the user…etc - nothing seems to work.

The following images are attached:

  1. ONB Running - to show it’s installed and configured successfully
  2. Registry - this is a previous issue I found on Milestone docs that recommended to do this (it doesn’t work either way)
  3. Device permissions: I gave read permissions to all my cameras
  4. User: test-user added to streaming-role
  5. Streaming role configuration
  6. ffply - showing the unauthorized error - Also the same happens in VLC where it keeps asking for username and password for the RTSP stream - which means it’s unable to authenticate.

Please double-check the "Configure user settings for an ONVIF client" here

https://doc.milestonesys.com/en-US/bundle/doc1047_2025r3/page/content/standard_features/sf_onvifbridge/onb_settingupmilonv.htm

If that doesn’t lead to a solution I will have to consult some people here at Milestone, so please let me know.

Yes! for some reason only the very first user I created was there, and I later deleted that user.

Thank you! It seems to work for now on a virtual camera, but I’ll test with the other live cameras tomorrow - but looks promising!

Just for our documentation, do we expect this to be the usual behaviour? Or do we expect the user to be added by default if we give it the right role?

I believe it is not automatic, user needs to be added.
