have tried to check your homepage and the forums but can’t seem to find a clear answer.
I wonder what XProtect versions (backward) are compatible with MIP SDK 2021 R2?
For example if I run against XProtect 2021 R1 Server everything works fine, but with XProtect 2018 R3 it mostly seem to work but I can’t view live video for example.
So what I’d like to know is what the oldest version of XProtect is that the MIP SDK 2021 R2 is expected to work with?

As I would like to test if samples work so can you please point out which sample doesn’t work when you tested with XProtect 2018 R3 and SDK 2021 R2?

I did find that Q&A also, however it did not have any specific details on compatibility with specific versions so it still did not answer my question unfortunately.
I tried the VideoViewer sample, updated with the 2021 R2 SDK (NOTE: Not 2020 R2 as you write but I guess that was a typo). However I only get the “Reconnecting…” status over and over. If I connect to the XProtect 2021 R1 Server however it works just fine.

According to the article, the newest SDK can be available for all (older) VMS version, if I understand it correctly. There are some exceptions but in your case – using VideoViewer to the 2018 R3 XPCO – should work.
I am suspecting if you use Smart Client, you may see the same issue… Can you please test it?
Also, can you please check if encryption is disabled on the 2018 R3 server?
