Not smooth video

Hi all

I’m running a Milestone Enterprise 8.0d installation as a virtual machine on my new HP server. The virtual machine is configured with 4 CPUs and 16GB RAM. And I doesn’t see any CPU/RAM spikes in my PRTG monitoring.

I’m having trouble that the video isn’t smooth, when viewing playback/live from both the manager and the web viever. I also tried exporting the video as a database export, and it’s still not smooth.

Some of the cameras are used as replaying riding sessions as some of the cameras are placed in a riding area. When the video isn’t smooth and jumping several frames, this is barely usable.

Do you have any ideas of how to solve this?

First and foremost, 8.0 is a 32bitinstallation. A 32-bit process cannot allocate more than 2 GByte, so the 16 GByte of RAM are simply overkill. Please check the memory utilization.

Next, is the video already choppy when it arrives? Pls try to experiment a bit, e.g. by disabling all but a few cameras and see if the issue persists. This would indicate bottlenecks somewhere.

Do the cameras use H.264? Does the picture change if you switch to JPEG? Are the cameras possibly unable to stream at the required resolution and framerate?

Also, are you using the latest Device Pack (just to be on the safe side)?
