Im trying to access (or export) recorded video via the API Gateway (or any method via HTTP(s)) - I know this ability is on Milestones roadmap- My question is, is this possible now (yet)?
(or are we still only able to do Configuration type actions through the API Gateway)
I have tried for the past hour to answer this question myself, ive read:

and done searches on the forums, however i dont have a clear answer yet. Even if its in a beta or early stage, id like to start experimenting with video retrieval via Milestones web API.

As you write this is on our roadmap, but not first up, so for the time being you will have to use one of the existing APIs: Either ImageServer API, Mobile Server API or Open Network Bridge (free-of-charge add-on).
I wanted to update this - prehaps a even better answer is that this amazing tool can do video exports as well!!

Ive been using this for over a year to generate excellent daily reports on my NVRs, but i wasnt aware that it supported Video exporting! (i now have a working framework to code around - this is for a low use, internal ONLY , web tool) More specifically this function:
