Push iOS app settings possible?

We are planing to use mobile app for iOS and manage it with vm ware (formerly known as Airwatch). In order to install the app we also want to create a policy to customize it for the user. That means we want to push the server settings etc onto the device so the user want have to do it by himself.

How can we do that?

Thanks in advance and regards

Oliver

Hi Oliver,

For server address/port in particular you can use “Smart Connect” and “invite” users to the server.

For other settings I’m not sure if it is possible.

I’ll ask around however.

Hi Petar, thx 4 your feedback! Due to the problem with missing internet connection from our intranet hosted milestone server, I am not able to use the feature “Smart Connect” at this very moment. If anybody can showme how to tell milestone mobile server that he should use proxy settings, i might get an outgoing connection to work, but not the other way aroung from internet to intranet. But this question is another topic  Help is also appreciated!

Cheers

Olli

It gets complicated then.

But how to the Mobile devices connect to the Mobile server network at the first place?

Using some VPN probably ?

Oh yes, it’s getting complicated  Our mobile devices will (hopefully) use VPN in order to connect to mobile server, that’s one direction. But the connection from mobile server to internet is very hard to biuld because of a lot of policies and IT sec stuff. I don’t think that we are able to create a subdomain and corresponding port forwarding in order to make milestone mobile reachable from the outside, but only via VPN.

Hello,

Unfortunately our iOS client doesn’t yet support AppConfig (which is used by AirWatch to push settings to the mobile apps.)

So at the moment it’s not possible to preconfigure the app for a particular enterprise settings

Is there a plan for this to change or is there a way to submit an official feature request for this? Because I too am looking at pushing Mobileview app out of airwatch.

Hi,

To my knowledge this is not in the roadmap at the moment. This might change in the future, as we have several requests already for such a feature, I’ve contacted our PO about that, but cannot promise anything :slightly_smiling_face:
