We would like to be able to play video and audio files with the SDKPlaybackController using direct database file access. Please let us know if audio is possible with this sample.

I will perform testing and find out whether the use of audio in this way is supported.
MIP SDK will have support for playback with microphone audio using offline files in MIP SDK 2018R1. There was a implementation which did not work, the implementation has now been fixed and will be tested and released with the 2018R1 version. Note that playback of speaker audio will come later, this will not be in the 2018R1 release.
What is the scheduled release date?
2018R1 versions will release by the end of February.
