Sending an event from Plugin I get sometimes an error in event server log

If I send an analytics event from my plugin I get sometime following error:

“2018-05-09 09:19:42 UTC+02:00 Error XPCORuleSystemManager Failed to trigger event against the rule system. Failed to lookup event in VMO”.

Is this a fault in my plugin? Because the functionality is there. I see this only in the log and it has no effect to the function it should have. In smart client I can see all the alarms!

The error means that the event server cannot communicate correctly with the management server or the sql server holding the configuration. I believe there is a buffer mechanism that will commit it very shortly after by a retry, it would perhaps explain that the system seems to work correctly.

Do you see any indication that your server might be overloaded? High CPU usage or similar?

Ok, Server is a test server on a VM and there is running event, recording and mobil server. But CPU load is only by 4%. Memory is used 3,9 from 16 GB. I think this is also ok. SQL is the Express version. There are only 4 Cameras in the test system.

So I see no indication for an overload.

No, I agree this does not sound like an overloaded system. What is the XProtect product and version you have?

This might be a wild guess, if version or symptoms do not match it would not be a fit..

I have running Xprotect Corporate 2017 R3 Version 11.3a Build 6738 on

Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.

And SQL is 2014

Does an Event Server restart resolve the issue when seen?

Does the Event Server logs include some error text or other information on this?

No, a restart doesn’t solve this. And in the log I found only:

“2018-05-14 13:16:48 UTC+02:00 Error XPCORuleSystemManager Failed to trigger event against the rule system. Failed to lookup event in VMO”

When you see the issue do a test. Can you create a rule “Perform an action on event” where you use the event, or do you get an error (or do not find the event)?

Ok, I try to do that. But we use an analytics event and I’m not able to create this rule with an analytics event. I use “Alarmdefinition” in “Alarms”, see picture..

Maybe something there is wrong.

So in rules the Analytics Events are missing?

SelectAnEvent

The known issue I mentioned fits except that issue is solved in, but the is solved in version (11.3a) 2017R3

Right, I don’t have Analytics Events in this window.

But I have already installed the HotFix, so 11.3a is running.

Sorry, but this sounds wrong. If you have 11.3a the Hotfix will not work for you. So I am assumning this is what you have; a 11.3a and NOT the hotfix. Please verify.

I have 11.3a.

I am glad you did not install the hotfix in the wrong version.

I will open a support case and ask you to send me logs, because I am running circles, every indication is that this is a known issue only it cannot be when you have the version where it is (supposedly) fixed.

A lot of logs is not fitting for the forum, but one day we can hopefully post a conclusion and what we learnt..

We learnt that the issues was not fixed in 2017 R3 (11.3a).. After some editing the knowledge base article now includes hot-fixes for 2017R2 and 2017R3.
