Hello,
We are experiencing a recurring issue with XProtect Expert 2020 R1 and would like to know if anyone has experienced a similar problem or found a solution.
Our XProtect Recording Server services are running under an Active Directory domain service account. Due to our security policy, the password for this account is changed every three months.
After the AD service account password is changed, some Recording Servers randomly begin to experience the following symptoms:
Cameras under the affected Recording Server repeatedly disconnect and reconnect.
The affected Windows server becomes extremely slow, to the point where remote access is difficult.
CPU and memory utilization do not appear unusually high.
When the XProtect Recording Server service is stopped, Windows immediately returns to normal performance.
Starting the Recording Server service again causes the performance issue and camera connection instability to return.
The affected Recording Server is not always the same; different servers may be affected after each password change.
This issue has occurred repeatedly for approximately one year and appears to be associated with the scheduled AD password change.
We have already tried the following:
Re-entering the updated AD credentials in the Windows service Log On settings
Changing the Recording Server service account to Network Service after the issue occurred
Restarting the Recording Server service and Windows
Reinstalling the XProtect Recording Server
Applying the available hotfix
Clearing the archive cache after Database Repairing was observed in the Recording Server logs
None of these actions resolved the camera disconnect/reconnect and server performance issue.
So far, the only method that has restored the affected server has been a complete Windows OS reinstallation. However, the same issue has later occurred again even on a server that had previously been reinstalled.
We also operate an XProtect 2024 R1 environment, and we have not observed the same issue there.
We opened a Technical Support Case with Milestone regarding this issue. However, we were informed that XProtect Expert 2020 R1 is outside the supported product lifecycle, so further technical investigation and support could not be provided.
We have collected the XProtect Recording Server logs and Windows Event Logs from an affected server and are currently analyzing them.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue with older XProtect versions, especially after changing the password of an AD account used to run the Recording Server service?
We would especially appreciate any information about:
Known issues related to AD service account password changes
Recording Server state, cache, credentials, or other data that may remain after reinstalling only the Recording Server
Possible causes of severe Windows performance degradation only while the Recording Server service is running
Recovery methods that do not require reinstalling Windows
Any similar experiences or troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
