I have experimented with temporary removing the connection to a camera. When Milestone connects afterward the connection is restored, it performs the automatic remote recording retrieval. However, when this is seen in the Smart Client playback timeline, motion is NOT marked by a red colour.
I have attached two images. The first one is with the timeline showing the gap before it is filled in with the retrieved content. The next shows the gap filled in but no red colour despite my hand appearing in the video.
The disadvantage is that for an operator that prioritises motion detection when viewing the playback timeline, then motion in the remote retrieved recording is likely to be missed.
I am using XProtect version 2024 R1 with a Professional+ Test Licence and Device Pack 13.2a. I am using the ONVIF driver.
